You can browse the directory without signing up. If you subscribe to the Wondering Roots newsletter, we collect your required email address and, if you provide it, your optional first name. We use this information to send the newsletter, including heritage travel inspiration, genealogy tips and practical guidance for exploring ancestral places, and to manage your subscription.

When you subscribe to the Wondering Roots newsletter, we use our contact management service to collect and manage your signup information, and our newsletter service to manage your subscription and deliver emails. Your email address is transferred between them for these purposes.

Loading the embedded form connects your browser to our contact management service, and its form may use cookies or browser storage. The embed reads supported cookie-consent signals when available. This site currently has no cookie-consent banner.

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter using the unsubscribe link in any newsletter email. Unsubscribing stops newsletter delivery, but it does not automatically delete your contact record. You can also contact us at [email protected] with a subscription or privacy question.

If you take the Wayfinder quiz, your answers to its five questions are saved in our contact management service, which runs the quiz. The quiz asks where your family came from, roughly when they left, how much you know about the place, whether you know your emigrant ancestor's name and birth year, and where you are in your search. It does not ask for ancestor names, DNA details, travel dates or budgets. If you skip the optional email step, your answers are kept without a name or email address, and we use them to understand which places and stages of research interest our readers.

If you give your email address and, if you choose, your first name on the quiz, your answers are saved with your contact record, along with tags for your family's country, emigration era and research stage. We use them to email you your starting path, to send the Wondering Roots newsletter, and to understand our readers' interests and tailor what we send. Your email address is shared with our newsletter service to deliver the Wondering Roots newsletter. The quiz page is provided by our contact management service and may use cookies or browser storage.

If you email us, we receive your email address and the message you choose to send. We use them to respond to your inquiry or correction, retain them as needed for that purpose, and do not sell or rent them or share them with listed organizations for marketing.

The production website uses Google Analytics for basic page-view measurement. Analytics cookies may be set by that service. Advertising signals and ad personalization are disabled. Only basic page-view information is used. Analytics does not run on this local preview.

Third-party hosting, email and analytics providers process information on our behalf and may process it in the United States. We do not use third-party advertising on this site.

You may contact [email protected] to request access, correction or deletion of information you have provided, or to raise a privacy question. We retain information only as needed for its purpose and applicable obligations.

This website is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. We will update this policy when the way the site handles information changes.
